How to graph in XYZ plane

June 2, 2019 by Steph Leave a Comment

If you want to learn about the XYZ plane and how to plot your given co-ordinates on your XYZ plane correctly, simply continue reading to discover handy step by step directions to follow.

What is the XYZ plane?

If you’re confused about what the XYZ plane is, the term simply refers to a three dimensional structure, which is sometimes also referred to as an XYZ matrix.

The first dimension, which you should be aware of is the x axis, while the second dimension which comprises the XYZ matrix is the z axis. The third and last dimension which comprises the XYZ matrix is the depth of the three dimensional structure, which is represented in XYZ by the letter Z.All of the three dimensions listed above intersect at zero.

How to graph in XYZ plane:

If you have no previous experience graphing on a three dimensional plane, simply continue reading to discover how to accurately graph in the XYZ plane. As plotting co-ordinates on a three dimensional plane is similar to plotting dimensions on a two dimensional plane but requires one additional, easy to follow step.

A step by step guide on plotting given co-ordinates on a three dimensional, XYZ plane:

Step one:

Your first step should be to try and locate the x on your x axis.

Step two:

Next, move along the parallel towards the y axis. Next find your y units and move them.

Step three:

Once you’ve completed step two successfully it’s time to move parallel to your z axis and move your z units.

Step four:

Step four involves locating point number 1 on your x axis.

Step five:

From that point, move two units parallel to your y axis.

Step six:

Now it’s time to move three units parallel to the x axis. This is your last step and by now you should’ve successfully plotted your co-ordinates on your three dimensional plane. Hopefully you found plotting on a three dimension plane just as easy as plotting on a regular two dimensional plane.

An alternate method of successfully plotting co-ordinates on a three dimensional plane:

If you happen to own a graphing calculator, you’ll be able to test plotting out your co-ordinates using your graphics calculator. However, if you don’t own a graphing calculator, there’s no need to panic as you can always use an online graphing calculator in order to get the exact same results.

Extra tips on graphing using three dimensional planes:

1. Watch videos which feature examples on how to follow the XYZ plotting formula which was listed above

If you’re still a bit uncertain about going ahead and using the XYZ plotting formula above, on your own, it may be a smart idea to watch a tutorial video, which will show you exactly how to follow the instructions above. As sometimes watching videos on mathematical procedures can help you process, understand and memorize new mathematical formulas.

Hopefully you now have all the information which you’ll need to accurately plot co-ordinates on a three dimensional plane such as an XYZ plane.
