Abuse Allegations On Campus- How To Stay Safe From False Ones

May 3, 2022 by Steph Leave a Comment

A college campus is always abuzz with activity as students attend classes, participate in cultural activities, and socialize at events. But there are some unusual perils you may face during your college years. Several students face incidents of harassment or assault at the hands of peers or staff. Some cases are reported, and countless go unreported due to apprehension and fear of social stigma.

At times, you may even face false abuse and assault allegations on campus. They can ruin your academic and career prospects in the long run, so staying safe should be a priority. Even if you encounter such a situation, you must know how to deal with it to save your name and reputation. Let us share some valuable advice to stay safe from false allegations on campus.

Stay calm

False accusations are always hard to handle, and they are even more daunting for young students. You may easily lose cool and react without assessing the entire situation. The best way to get through the crisis is by staying calm and using common sense. The accuser may want to instigate you, but the last thing you should do is react furiously. Anything you say or do can go against you later, so be very careful with your words and actions. Proceeding with a calm stance will keep you out of trouble.

Talk to the authorities

Every college has a disciplinary rulebook to handle misconduct on campus. They may suspend the student or impose restrictions on entry to the campus right away. But you shouldn’t accept the action right away. Talk to the authorities and report your side of the story. It will enable them to get a clear picture of the incident. You can connect with a student counselor in the first place to get the support you need. Provide evidence and witnesses to clarify your position if possible.

Know your rights

Every accused has the legal right to defend themselves against the charges against them. You must know them even better if accused falsely. Hiring a seasoned sex crime attorney is the first step to proving your innocence. Ensure not to give a police statement before calling your lawyer. You have the right to remain silent, so use it to your advantage. Even an innocent or impulsive statement can go against you in court. Avoid saying anything at all until you discuss the case with your attorney. Provide them with all critical details and anything that may work as a piece of evidence (such as texts and emails showing intentional contact with the accuser).

Avoid approaching the accuser

Your first impulse may be to approach the accuser and confront them over the false charges. You will want to know the motives and intentions behind their action. But it is the worst way to deal with the situation as it can land you in deeper trouble. Let your lawyer handle things and build a robust defense strategy to get you out clean. You can discuss the possible reasons for the false allegations. Maybe, the accuser did it out of rage or jealousy, or they want to coerce you in some way. Students may also bring false claims against peers to ruin their reputation and career in the long run. Trust your legal professional because they probably have experience handling such cases.

Seek support

A false allegation can be taxing, and you must get support to stay sane while defending yourself against them. Seeking support can help you maintain your sanity and proceed with logic. Start by talking to peers and professors because they can actually help by vouching for your character in court. Your family can be the pillar of strength, so inform them and ask for help. Having loved ones around boosts your morale and confidence during a crisis. Your college counselor can help you deal with the mental health implications of the false charges. Do not overlook therapeutic support because you will need it more than you imagine.

False allegations of abuse and assault on campus are not common. Students bring them up against peers with wrong intentions and unlawful motives. The only way to address them is by maintaining your cool and hiring an expert attorney to build your defense. You cannot leave things to chance with something as serious as sex crimes, even if you are innocent. Proving it is vital to protect your academic, career, and future, so be sure to get the best lawyer on board to defend you in court and get you a clean chit.

Ways To Improve The Education System Today

March 10, 2022 by Steph Leave a Comment

Education is one of the most critical aspects of one’s life. It can act as an anchor that holds one’s ambitions and growth in place. Developing useful qualities tends to become easier to attain through quality education and experiences. Moreover, for students to realize their true passions and interests, specific steps need to be taken to facilitate the students. Many courses provide such attributes to students and provide them with the skills necessary for going through life and its challenge. A few other ways education may improve in our society are as mentioned below.

  • Policy Makers

Policymakers have an undeniably critical role to play in the education system. The problem does not pertain to money itself; we need to prioritize the educational system. Prioritizing it is crucial because that is how we can give it our undivided attention.

Policymakers can provide policies that prioritize the educational system, thus further giving rise to the importance of educational systems. Building a school community for all students will increase the number of students wanting to learn. A surge in a compliant and understanding environment will improve overall student achievement.

Furthermore, the process of detention and suspension needs amendment. A greater emphasis on alternative discipline methods will make students understand other conflict resolution and management methods.

  • Student Engagement

Humans are interactive mammals; they need to interact with learning. Our species has evolved through interacting and playing physical roles. How can we expect different from our students?

To better understand what they are learning, they need to feel what they are studying. Providing internships and other minor job opportunities to students in their learning years will help them comprehend opportunities. It’s vital to provide students with an active learning experience to advance their learning even during an online degree, such as an online MA in Urban Education.

  • Cooperative Learning

Academic education is essential, but students also need to develop social and emotional skills that will provide for them esteemed fundamentals for their lives as workers, family members, and citizens. Studies should enable students to reach across traditional ways and explore themselves. Alongside this, schools should use comprehensive assessment methods in the curriculum. Assessments need comprehension beyond simple test scores; they should be an opportunity for students to learn from their mistakes.

  • Role Of Teachers

Teachers need to coach and guide their students throughout the entire learning process. They should become friends with the students and provide them with the essential attention required to nurture their interests. Students need to be confident that they can come to their teachers for the proper guidance they rightly deserve. Teachers need to remain updated on technological advancements; they can provide more mentoring and less time to give out lessons. Teaching skills need to be continuously polished and ready to hand out their knowledge regardless of the system’s issues.

  • Role Of Technology

Like in all other sectors, technology is crucial for the transformation and improvement of almost every aspect of the school. From the modernization of curriculum to the system of the administration. With the advent of online studies, more students can attain these courses and learn remotely. Students can create a sense of belonging as they will be a part of a larger online community. The use of technology can provide ease for the teacher, too; keeping and maintaining records of children becomes much more manageable.

  • Parental Involvement

Learning is not just a specific centric activity. Parents must show the same values and understanding of things they see in their educational institutes when a child is at home. Parents play an enormous role in the upbringing of their children. Studies show that a student whose parents are just as involved in their studies as they tend to achieve more success than those placed in the hands of the teachers and institutes.

Parents must learn to nourish and water the interests of their children while also instilling meaningful values into their children. Schools should be required to create strong bonds with parents and welcome their active input in classrooms. As a teacher, one should have information regarding the schools’ goals and emphasize each child’s growth and potential.

Education needs to be an exciting endeavor. It should be more about learning and discovering something new rather than about the testing of the capabilities of students. All students have different hopes and aspirations and must be addressed accordingly. As the famous saying goes, “if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will always live its life thinking it is stupid.” Providing reward systems in place of de-merits would push students to learn more about achieving success. A sense of purpose is sought after in all aspects of life, and learning is no different. Thus, to better the educational system, we must deliver quality experiences. The design needs to convey education using techniques catered to learning rather than a generalized approach. An approach accommodated to only a select group of students. Through this, students may achieve great success and great opportunities to apply what they learned since knowledge is best when used relevantly.

4 Ways to Support Your Child’s Education

February 7, 2022 by Steph Leave a Comment

As a parent, all you want is the best for your child’s education. However, sometimes school alone isn’t enough. Supplementing your child’s education may be necessary in order to ensure that they’re grasping all the concepts. Here are some of the best tips for supporting your child’s education, and ensuring they get the most out of what they’re learning.

Stay in Contact With Their Teacher

The most important thing is ensuring that you’re in contact with their teacher. Their teacher is with them every day, and they may have more insight into their problem areas and strengths. Take a look at their grades, and if you notice any trouble areas, schedule an appointment immediately with their teacher. You may find that it’s not that big of an issue, however, your child’s teacher will be able to explain whether they feel it requires more attention or not.

Study Together

It’s not your job to do their schoolwork for them, however you can and should help motivate them to study and revisit what they learned in school. A good rule of thumb is helping them for at least 10 minutes a day and letting them study for another 30 on their own. Helping them is extremely important, however, they should also learn the importance of autonomy.

Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences

It’s important that you stay up to date with what’s going on in your child’s class and the school. The more that you can stay up to date with your child’s school, the more you’ll feel connected to what’s going on with them. Parent teacher conferences are a good chance to meet other parents, and also provide your feedback if you feel that there are certain things that could change, don’t be afraid to voice your opinion, and share your ideas.

Sign Up For Online Tutoring

If there are particular areas where your child is having trouble, you may want to consider hiring an online tutor. Online tutors provide a wider range of options since you can choose from anyone all over the world. Online tutors can be a great way to reinforce the current curriculum of your child’s education, or even learn additional subjects to broaden their learning.

Sometimes parents may have trouble getting their children to willingly take additional courses since they feel traditional class is enough. However, you should encourage them and explain why it’s a positive thing for them. Above all, make sure that you set up a positive learning environment for them that’s free of distractions and is well lit and comfortable. Expecting your child to do online tutoring with lots of distractions is a recipe for disaster.

These are just a few tips for supporting your child’s education and ensuring that they are the best they can be in their classes. With consistency and a little bit of hard work, you should encourage your child to well now and beyond!

9 Things Colleges Love to See on Applications

October 20, 2021 by Steph Leave a Comment

C:\Users\faiza\Desktop\Image.jpg

Putting together an impressive college application can be a daunting task. Academic achievement should, without a doubt, be your priority as it shows that you can cope with the demands of further education. But there are other things that look good on college applications besides good grades.

Even still, it can be difficult to second-guess exactly what college admissions officers value most. Enthusiasm and dedication to extracurricular activities will always help. But what are the sports that look good on college applications? And should you focus on gaining volunteer experience or writing a killer college essay?

Keep reading to learn the things that will look good on a college application!

1. High Grade Point Average (GPA)

By far the most important step you can take to make yourself a competitive college candidate is to work hard in school. As a measure of your academic performance over almost four years of your life, your GPA is the best reflection of what kind of college student you will be. As such, it should come as no surprise to learn that it’s the single most influential factor that any college will consider.

One way to improve your GPA is to enroll in honors classes during your freshman and sophomore years. You can take then take advanced placement (AP) classes during your junior and senior years. An A in an AP class is often worth 5.0 points instead of the usual 4.0 for a regular class. As such, this will help boost your weighted GPA. What’s more, taking AP classes speaks to your interest in the subject as well as your ability to take on more challenging work.

In particular, try to take AP classes in the subjects that you’d like to study in college, or those that are relevant to your preferred field. For example, if you want to study translation, you might aim to take one or two AP Language and Culture courses, such as Chinese, French, or Spanish.

2. Excellent Test Scores

For colleges that consider standardized test scores, these tend to rank second after your GPA. That said, even test-optional college admissions processes use your test scores to determine your eligibility for merit-based financial aid. In short, your test scores always matter!

Test scores are important because they’re what set you apart. It’s often useful to check out the school profile of the colleges you’re considering to see their range of typical scores. You can then find out where you stand within this range by taking a practice SAT or practice ACT.

You may also need to take at least one or two SAT Subject Tests. You can find out if the schools you’re considering include this in their admissions requirements to make sure you’re prepared. Even if your chosen college doesn’t request SAT Subject Tests, taking these tests can be a smart move on your part. Achieving a solid score on a subject-specific test demonstrates that you’ve mastered the material. Plus, it can even earn you college credit or get you on higher-level college courses.

3. Academic Honors

While an excellent GPA and great test scores are more obvious examples of academic honors, view here for academic achievements that will boost your application but can be easy to miss.

Among them are awards for subjects and contests, perfect attendance, and foreign languages. All these achievements are proof of your commitment and dedication to improving your academic profile, making them of great value to college admissions officers.

4. Involvement in Extracurricular Clubs and Societies

Wondering what looks good on college applications besides good grades and other academic honors? Involvement in extracurricular clubs and societies can be a real draw for college admissions officers. Early on in your high school career, join two or three clubs that interest you and then try to find a way to take on more responsibility at least one of them.

Some of the best extracurricular activities for college applications include student government, the debate team, and the school newspaper. But, your main concern should be to ascend to a leadership position in one of your chosen clubs. Leadership shows maturity and character, plus you’ll appeal to colleges looking to recruit future leaders for their student organizations.

5. Sporting Abilities

Joining a sports team is another popular option to improve your college application profile. Colleges know that playing high school sports entails a major time commitment so don’t feel that you have to join a bunch of clubs and play sports. Striking the balance that fits your schedule and abilities should be your main aim. That said, if you’re able to rise to a leadership position in one or more sports teams, this will be a huge draw for colleges.

As for the specific sports that look good on college applications, football, basketball, and baseball all show discipline and team-building skills, both of which are important for succeeding in college. But above all, you should choose a sport you love as this passion will shine through in your application and make you stand out as a potential candidate.

6. Volunteering Experience

Although there’s no volunteering requirement to gain admittance to college, it seems to be one of those unwritten rules that those who support others will become key contributors on campus.

Many high schools offer local volunteering options to help students give back to the community. Or, you could check out local non-profits that interest you, such as animal shelters, as well as larger organizations and online virtual volunteer opportunities.

Remember, when asking yourself, “what do colleges look for besides grades?”, showing your passion for helping others comes pretty high on the list.

7. Work and Internships

Many high school students rely on paid work to cover their expenses and save for college. If juggling work and high school prevents you from participating in as many sports or clubs as some of your classmates, don’t worry – colleges love to see a strong work ethic. And, they’ll take the fact that your part-time job required a big investment of time when considering your application.

That said, it always looks even better if you’ve been able to land a job or internship in the field you’d like to pursue a career. Or, failing that, college admissions officers love self-starters as it shows a strong entrepreneurial spirit. So, if your work experience involves setting up your own lawn-mowing enterprise or pet-sitting business, this will make for a great story on your application.

8. Insightful College Essay

Your grades and test scores prove that you’d be a strong college student. Your extracurricular pursuits show your wide range of interests and talents. Your essay, however, is your opportunity to let the college admissions officers hear your unique voice. Here, you’ll be able to share information relevant to your personal experiences that didn’t make it onto your application.

Not all colleges request an essay as part of the admission application. But if your chosen college does, your essay should be insightful, polished, and proofread to perfection. But beyond all that, it must be an authentic representation of you, your life, your values, your perspective, and your personal growth. In short, make sure it’s an essay only you could have written.

9. Recommendation Letters

Academic and professional recommendation letters and references can often play a key role in your college application.

The best tactic is to ask the teachers that know and appreciate the quality of your work and your academic abilities best. But, they should also be able to talk about some of your positive personal qualities too. Alternatively, you may want to ask your school guidance counselor, a teacher you’ve worked with on a school committee or club, or the coach from your high school sports team.

Another nice touch is to ask a professional member of the community to write a letter of recommendation for you. This would need to be someone who knows you in a professional capacity, such as your current or former boss, or a supervisor from a volunteering project. And, if this person has some kind of tie to the college you’re applying to, as a donor or alumnus for example, even better!

Or, if you’ve established your own small business, you could even ask a loyal customer to write a letter praising your strong work ethic and unfailing professionalism.

Things That Look Good on College Applications

As these things that look good on college applications show, there’s a lot more to a winning college application than good grades.

Remember, colleges look for balance when reviewing college applications. And an outstanding academic record, to the exclusion of everything else, does not make for a well-rounded applicant.

Your GPA, test scores, and academic honors show that you’re more than ready to study hard. But, it’s your extracurricular activities, college essay, and recommendations that are a true measure of your unique abilities and personality.

Early Education Centres – What Are They and How Do They Help Your Child?

August 24, 2021 by Steph Leave a Comment

Early education centres are becoming more and more popular in Australia every single year. While traditional daycare centres and after school care facilities still exist, an early education centre, while functioning as a daycare centre, is so much more than being a safe place you can leave preschool-aged children for the day.

Let’s take a look at the modern early education centre, what it is and what one can offer both children and parents.

What Is An Early Education Centre?

As mentioned in the introduction, early education centres are far more than just a daycare centre. Sure, it’s a place where young children can safely spend the day, under expert supervision, while parents are at work or attending to other activities, but early education facilities offer a broad spectrum of activities that are designed to educate, enhance the positive development of young bodies and minds and also to prepare kids for the school years to come.

Let’s now look at some of the key benefits of enrolling your child in a quality early education centre.

The School Readiness Program

Rather than children starting school “cold” and with no experience, early education centres offer what’s commonly known as a “school readiness program” or “school preparedness program”. The idea of the program is to offer a varied curriculum of education and activities that gives kids a head start once they do start school.

One of the most important aspects of the school readiness program is it’s also designed to build self-confidence in young children, along with important social skills. When children arrive for their first day at school, everything won’t feel completely new and foreign to them. They will also likely have made some friends at the early learning centre that they’ll be starting school with too.

The Basics of Education Are Covered

While each early education centre will offer a slightly different curriculum, they will all offer basic education so children already have a grasp of core subjects like science, math and English before starting primary school.

Two key programs ensure the head start in education you’ll want for your child. These programs are:

  1. THRASS
  2. STEM

THRASS covers things like literacy, involving handwriting, reading and spelling skills. Developed in 1998, THRASS has proven to be a highly effective teaching method.

STEM represents “science, technology, engineering and mathematics”. Children will receive an introduction to numeracy skills as well as undertaking Computer Gym.

Both programs are interactive and designed to be fun for kids, as this helps them to grasp the concepts more readily and learn easier.

Health and Nutrition Are Covered

It’s important that children learn about health and nutrition at an early age, as this will set them up for a healthy lifestyle for the rest of their lives. Parents often struggle to get children to eat vegetables and other healthy food. Part of the reason is it can be difficult to get kids to understand why this is important and there are effective ways of teaching good nutrition to young kids.

Early learning centres have developed methods for children to better understand why eating healthy is important, along with delivery methods that encourage kids to eat good food that’s also delicious.

Health and nutrition isn’t the only thing covered when it comes to developing healthy bodies and minds. There are also fun exercise programs and activities, where children develop their fitness levels and have fun in the process while attending an early education facility. These activities not only improve fitness and general physical development, but they are also designed to instil self-confidence in kids.

Music Therapy Is Very Beneficial

While not every early learning centre in Australia makes use of music therapy, many centres do and for good reason.

Music therapy programs are fantastic for developing the minds of young children and expanding their capacity to learn and absorb information. Music is rare in that it requires both sides of the brain to process it. This leads to a mind that is more open and receptive.

Children also learn to be more creative and appreciate the power of music at a very young age.

The Takeaway

Every parent should consider sending their child to an early learning centre, as doing so ensures they receive a positive start in life prior to the school years.

Become an Occupational Therapist for a Rewarding Career

When you want a career that’s rewarding, but you’re not sure what to choose, you may want to consider something that helps others. Occupational therapy is one option, because it’s a great way to work on making people’s lives better and helping them move toward being able to do more of the things they want to do in life. Like other types of therapy and rehabilitation, working in this capacity can mean helping people get back on their feet, learn new skills, and more. Here’s what to know about getting started.

Choose the Right Schooling for Your Career

To get a Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT), you’ll need to stay focused on your goals. It takes time and effort. But one of the biggest things you need to focus on when trying to get your MSOT, is to choose the right school. Even though schools are going to teach the same basic things, they may have some different ways of doing it. Instructors are also all different, and some schools are more dedicated to information beyond the basic curriculum. Choosing the right school is important.

Helping People Can be Very Rewarding

One of the most valuable things about getting your MSOT is the rewarding nature of the career you’ll have. Helping people never goes out of style, and it generally makes you feel good, too. You don’t have to save the world to feel rewarded by helping people live their best lives. You can do small things and receive a lot of reward, as well. Just seeing people get through their OT and be able to work again, or perform activities of daily living that they couldn’t do before, is often its own reward.

Don’t Settle for a Career You Don’t Like

There’s no reason you have to settle for a job where you feel like you’re not reaching your potential, or not really helping people who may need and want that help. Instead, you can choose to get an MSOT and focus on new and better ways you can add more value to your life and the lives of other people. Choosing to work toward more education, especially in the medical field, is among the great ways to make sure you’re getting involved in a career that can be very rewarding to you and fulfill your desire to help others.

Too many people get stuck in careers that really aren’t right for them, and that doesn’t provide them with the value they want and need. They may be interested in helping people, but find that they aren’t able to really do that very effectively in their current job. If that’s where you’re finding yourself, getting your MSOT could be what you need to change all that. You can get into a field that’s important to you, and find a way to start making a big difference in the lives of the people in your local community.

You Can Focus on Important Career Goals

Among the value of getting an MSOT for a lot of people, is the career goals that their degree helps them meet. Maybe you already work in OT, as an aide or an assistant. Or maybe you’ve always dreamed of moving into OT or working in the medical field. No matter where you currently are in your career, and what kinds of jobs you’ve had in the past, getting your MSOT could be exactly what you need to start down a new path that’s going to fit your goals and dreams better than the career you currently have.

People Need the Kind of Help You’ll Provide

Every day, people need help with OT activities. They may need to relearn skills after an accident or illness, and they may have trouble working or performing daily life tasks because of something that’s happened to them. If that’s the case, you and your MSOT can help them. Not only does that give them physical help, but it can also make it easier on their mental health and provide them with healing and hope that they might not have experienced before. Those are all important things, and very worthwhile.

You Can Make a Difference in the World

Making a difference in the world, or even in your local community, is a great way to leave your mark. With an MSOT, you have the opportunity to make that difference, and you can have an entire career that’s centered around the kind of value you can provide to other people. There’s no reason to avoid that, or feel like it’s not for you. No matter your age or education level, there are ways to work toward the career you want. Getting your MSOT will let you build a strong career that’s based on helping people live better lives and reach their own goals and dreams, as well.
