How to Ace the Interview – 3 Tips to Getting That Job You Want

April 19, 2021 by Steph Leave a Comment

Jobs are, of course, essential for survival in today’s world – whilst some people may have a side business or something else that makes them money, the fact is that the majority of people in the world rely on a job to survive. However, not are jobs are made equal – read on to find out how you can secure the best job possible, and earn the most money!

Job, Interview, Hiring, Hand, Shake, Office, Table

Practice the Interview

Lots of people prepare a nice CV and even a cover letter. They apply to dozens, if not hundreds, of jobs – but never actually expect a callback. Point is, lots of people don’t actually prepare for their interview. No matter how ‘lowly’ a position is, it’s important to revise some of the most common interview questions. Queries such as, “What’s your greatest weakness?” are very common and yet so many people sabotage themselves with actual weaknesses. The key to answering this question successfully is to pick a genuine weakness, but one that is not particularly relevant to this job. That way, you are honest whilst also looking like the right fit for the job. It’s all in the details!

Education, Education, Education…

It’s very true that experience does matter. However, a lot of companies are looking for employees with a decent bit of education, too – especially if the job you are going for is higher paid than average. A great educational background can make all the difference. For example, if you attended an excellent school like visitation.net, why not use your alumni contacts to see if you can get your foot in the door of an organization you are interested in working for?

In addition, employers want to see that you have the best education possible – whilst experience is of course also very much desired, education instills certain values in a person that just can’t be learned elsewhere. Resilience, grit, and lateral thinking – these are all things that an employer will be looking for, and attending the right school makes all the difference.

Read Body Language

Being able to interpret body language can come in handy in a lot of situations. It’s also important that you can not only ‘read’ others, but are also aware of the body cues you send off – oftentimes unconsciously. First impressions count – and that’s not just a saying. Many interview decisions are made off the basis of the first impression, and so it’s important that you come across as an open and charming individual right away. Steer clear of ‘closed’ postures, like holding your arms over your chest. Try to temper your tics, too – shaking your leg, or touching your face too often are definitely big no-no’s. Try to appear comfortable in your skin, whilst also being professional (not too relaxed) and ‘open’ to the interviewer. As with all things, this takes lots of practice.

In conclusion, these are some of the most important things you can do in order to secure that job you want – from practicing the interview to coming across as an open person and putting your full education details, these should help you get a jump on your competition!
