How Electric Bikes Can Improve Restaurant Delivery Service

April 22, 2021 by Steph Leave a Comment

You know that the more meals your restaurant can deliver, the more money you’ll be bringing in. So what can you do to take your delivery service to the next level and get more meals onto more tables? Savvy restaurateurs are investing in new technology to transport deliveries to diners, so here’s why an option like an electric bike 500w might be ideal for boosting your business.

E-Bikes Are Better Than Cars

If you’re still relying on a fleet of cars to deliver your meals, you’re likely dealing with the host of delays that can come from operating traditional vehicles:

  • Traffic can be a nightmare, particularly during the lunch and dinner hours. If your drivers are forever getting stuck in a gnarl of other cars, you won’t be able to schedule as many deliveries as you’d like.
  • Parking is no fun, either. Even when traffic is light, a lot of time may be wasted in searching for a spot.
  • Wear and tear can be significant. Brakes and starters are just some of the systems that can wear out when cars frequently stop and start, and fixing these issues can be expensive.
  • Gas is costly. If your drivers are paying for their own fuel, it may not be profitable for them to stick with the job long-term. Yet if you pay for gasoline yourself to attract more drivers, the cost can really add up.

Electric bikes for commuting can easily weave in and out of traffic, and most can be left on the sidewalk during deliveries so there’s no need to park them. With their simple operating systems, even occasional e-bike repairs are rarely costly, and there is no need to pay for expensive fuel.

E-Bikes Are Better Than Regular Bikes

So if cars are out, then bicycles might seem to be the right choice for your delivery fleet. Unfortunately, traditional bikes have their own set of drawbacks:

  • Bikes are slow. Unless you have Lance Armstrong delivering for you, the time saved in traffic navigation can be lost to the fact that people can only pedal so fast.
  • Pedaling for a whole shift can be exhausting. Without an engine to help propel them, the effort involved in navigating around town solely on human power will likely prove to be too tiring for your delivery team.
  • Not all terrains are ideal for bikes. If you’re in a town that is hilly, delivery folks on regular bikes may not be able to get up steep slopes.

Electric bikes provide enough horsepower to move your drivers around quickly, and they won’t run out of steam in the same way they might when relying only on pedal power. It also requires a lot less human effort to tackle inclines on an e-bike, so even the hilliest of areas can become manageable.

If you want to up your restaurant delivery game, then getting your staff onto e-bikes might be the right solution for you. Check out an electric bike buying guide when you’re ready to convert your fleet to these zippy two-wheeled transports.
