5 Business Ideas for Up-and-Coming Entrepreneurs

August 20, 2020 by Steph Leave a Comment

One of the more difficult parts of starting a business is making sure that the premise behind that business is actually profitable. Even if one of your businesses seems suitable in the short term, keeping that business going will require a lot of hard work and determination that, despite your best efforts, may or may not pay off in the long run. Getting a business off the ground at all is an impressive feat all the same, though, and if you’re looking for a good business idea for your next venture here are a few places to start.

Nutritional Supplements

The health food market is a profitable one, so selling quality nutritional supplements is one business idea that can gain traction. You will generally want to make sure you know who you are selling to before you invest heavily in this kind of business, though, so it may help to do some kind of market research first. You might want to invest a fair amount of money into the formulation of your nutritional supplements as well, and there are businesses that will help any aspiring softgel company with mixing and shipping their product to your store. Once you become more established in your market, you should also consider sponsoring local sporting and fitness events, as these events are great ways to target a high-quality customer base in your area.

Food Truck

You don’t necessarily have to buy space in a building to get your business off the ground; food trucks are proof of that. They are still subject to all of the food safety requirements of normal restaurants, of course, and most trucks you will buy are not suited for serving meals. The process of purchasing and renovating the truck is going to be a couple of your major startup expenses, along with necessities like insurance and employee pay. You also need to make sure that you are legally allowed to park where you are operating; it’s all well and good if you are serving an outdoor festival, but you probably won’t be allowed to perform the same services everywhere, so make sure to remain up-to-date on your local zoning laws. Marketing is a helpful way to spend your money as well, to a point, so employing statement mailing service may not be a bad idea either.

Language Translation

If you have a set of skills you know that not everyone has, you should look try to monetize those skills if you can. People who are fluent in more than one language are very much in demand if they know where to look, so a career in translation might be a good place to start. You will usually want to make sure your multilingual skillset is supplemented by some other skills as well, with management and computer programming being particularly useful. You could even try to pursue a career in another country once the global COVID-19 situation improves.

It would be a grave oversimplification to say that most businesses are alike, but knowing a few basic principles of business can be a good way to get started in many industries. Given that a relative minority of small businesses last in the long-term, you are going to have to be smart about how to conduct yourself without taking too many risks. That being said, there is no substitute for experience; the more you do your job, the better at it you will get and mistakes are par for the course. Once you get your business up and running, you will already have passed many hurdles that have stopped others in their tracks.
