We’re all in need of a life coach after the changes we faced in 2020, right?

Coronavirus disrupted all our plans, and now many are looking to get back on track. If helping someone else sounds like something you’d enjoy, you should consider a life coach program.

But with so many courses available, how do you know where to start? If you want a successful career in life coaching, there are a few crucial things to look out for.

Read on for the top five tips for choosing life coaching programs.

1. Course Length

Life coaching isn’t a protected title, so hundreds of different courses vary in length of study. But you shouldn’t necessarily choose the course that takes the least time to complete.

The average life coach course takes 6-12 months. As a rule of thumb, avoid anything that promises results in less than 3 months. As you’re unlikely to get the in-depth experience, you need to be a professional life coach.

2. Course Cost

Cost is a significant factor for many prospective life coaches; luckily, courses range from single to triple digits. Life coach certification programs will offer you a certificate or accreditation at the end, but the value of that will be different depending on the cost of the course.

If you can put down more money, you’re more likely to come out with excellent training, ready to start your coaching. At the end of the day, pay what you can, but generally, it’s best to pay more.

3. Teaching Style

Think about how your course will be taught and whether it suits you. If you’re ready to commit the 9-5 life, go for a classroom-style course. If you’re busy, working another job, or looking after children, a remote course may suit you better.

Search for ‘life coach certification programs near me and browse through the options; you’ll see plenty of in-person and remote courses available.

4. Focus Area

Some people like to work within general life coaching, helping all types of people with any problem. This is a great way to guarantee clients and keep your work interesting. If you’re unsure if you want to specialize, look for a general course first; you can always do additional training later.

If you’re only interested in a specific area, there are plenty of specialized courses, including topics such as business, health, fitness, personal, and relationship coaching.

5. Credentials

If you’re looking for the best life coaching programs, think about the type of certificate you get at the end of the course. Some offer accreditation that allows you to charge high prices and give you credibility; others provide a basic certification that will not be recognized in the industry.

Credentials are a significant thing to consider while you’re researching how to become a life coach, but all high-quality courses will state precisely what credentials you’ll gain from working with them.
