Unit Conversion Tables for Lengths & Distances

Unit is used to define a quantity. In other words, unit is an identification mark of any quantity. Some quantities and constants do not have any unit that is they are unit less. Unit is always used with a number where number represents the magnitude and unit represents for which quantity the parameter is written. When we use 5 m then ‘m’ is called unit and 5 is referred as magnitude. The distance can also be referred as length. Units of length and distances are similar. Both parameters are used in calculating the covered distance. Unit of length or distance is ‘meter’ which is universal since it is defined by SI unit system.

SI unit system is the international system of units. All standard units are fixed by this unit system. It is also possible to convert the units. Conversion is possible only for same quantities. Conversion of units is not possible among different quantities. In distance unit conversion table, one unit of distance can be converted into any other unit of distance by multiplying or dividing the unit by a conversion factor that will be a constant. For instance ‘meter (in SI unit system)’ will be written ‘0.01centimeter (in CGS system)’. Conversion is done among various unit systems. If we want to convert mass unit then it can be converted only in mass unit which is used in other unit systems. Hence kilogram (kg) can be converted into gram in CGS system and pound in FPS unit system.
