# Properties of Addition and Convenient Calculation

Addition means to add, join, combine or bring together any two or more given terms. A '+' sign is used to denote addition. Here are some of the properties of addition:

1. Closure Property

According to this property, when two whole Numbers are added then the sum will also be a whole number.

e.g, 3 + 5 = 8

2. Commutative Property

The commutative property of addition states that when two whole numbers are added, the result doesn't change with change in the order of the whole numbers.

e.g, 3 + 5 = 5 + 3 = 8

3. Associative Property

The Associative Property of Addition states that when three whole numbers are added, the result doesn't change with change in the Position of the brackets of the operators.

e.g, 3 + (5 + 2) = (5 + 3) + 2 = 10

4. Identity Property

The identity property states that there is a Whole Number '0' such that when this number gets added with any other whole number then the result will be the other whole number.

e.g, 3 + 0 = 3
