Number system provides various types of number Patterns to solve the various types of problems. From those number patterns we are going to discuss about the positive and negative Numbers. In the general aspect both can be considered as Integer numbers of mathematics. Positive numbers are those numbers which have the value greater than 0 and negative numbers are those numbers which have the value less than 0. In the positive numbers we generally consider the values like .001, 1, 1.1, and 400 and so on. In the same sense we consider the values like – 1, - 2, - .002, - 15 and so on.

At the positive side of number system we know that greater value number has the higher grading in comparison to other number values. In the case of negative numbers, the number which has the higher value has the lower grading.

It means that – 2 has the highest value in comparison to – 4. If we have a collection of several numbers, which contains the Combination of negative and positive numbers, then we have to remember that in ascending order we first place the negative values and after that positive values because positive numbers are greater than the negative numbers.

The arithmetic operations negative and positive numbers can easily be performed. Let us see the examples of performing the operations on positive and negative numbers:

Example: Add the numbers 5.6 and – 2.3.

Solution: In the above example, there are numbers; one is positive and another is negative, then solution will be

=> 5.6 + (- 2.3)

In the above example, addition of (+) and (-) symbol will generate the result (+) as the symbol of the larger number is (+).

=> 5.6 – 2.3

=> 3.3
