Polygons are the closed figures, which are formed by three or more line segments. We say that the Line Segment is the part of the line which has the fixed length and the fixed end points. In Polygon Geometry, we will learn about the different Types of Polygons and the different names are given to them. If a polygon has all sides equal, then we say that the polygon is a Regular Polygon. We start with the polygons of three line segments. A closed figure formed by joining end to end of the three line segments are called Triangles A triangle has 3 sides, 3 vertex and 3 angles. If a triangle has all the sides equal, we call it an Equilateral Triangle.
Now we look at 4 sided polygons, which are called quadrilaterals, a quadrilateral can be named as a Square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezium, kite or a Parallelogram based on the different properties of the quadrilaterals. If all the sides of the quadrilateral are equal, then it is a regular quadrilateral. It can be a square or a Rhombus, depending upon the angles measure of the figure, which we will study in other sessions. In a quadrilateral we have a closed figure formed by joining 4 sides of equal or unequal lengths. All the quadrilaterals have 4 sides, 4 vertices and so it has 4 angles. If the quadrilaterals are in form of the square or Rectangle, then it has all angles equal (90 degrees each).
Now we see that the 5 sides polygon is called a pentagon, the 6 sides polygon is called a Hexagon, the 7 sides polygon is called a heptagons, the 8 sides polygon is called a octagon, the 9 sides polygon is called a nonagon, the 10 sides polygon is called a decagon.

Enclosed flat figures made up of lines which are straight are called as Polygon. Here flat means that figure is two dimensional. Straight lines in definition are also called as segments. Polygons are called enclosed because all line segments fit at end Point with each other and it has no opening point. Those figure which are not enclosed are not considered in category ...Read More
A Polygon with 12 sides is called as dodecagon. It can be regular or irregular. If we want to calculate interior angle sum then we need to divide the dodecagon into Triangles. It consists of 10 triangles. We can calculate the sum of all angles by multiplying 180 * 10 because we have 10 triangles and each triangles interior angle sum is 180 degree. So dodecagon angles su...Read More
Quadrilaterals are the special type of polygons which are the closed figure formed by joining 4 line segments, sometimes they may be equal and sometimes not, depending upon the type of quadrilateral it is. Here we ar...Read More
A Polygon is a packed or closed figure which is bounded by three or more line is known as a polygon or any type of figure which has closed shape is known as polygon. The meaning of poly is “many” and meaning of “gon” is “angle”. A polygon has two dimensional shapes. In a Polygon every end Point is known as vertex of polygon. The exterior angle of a poly...Read More
In Geometry the figure which contains two dimensional shapes are called polygons. The polygons are closed with straight lines. There are many types of polygons such as simple polygons, complex polygons, concave polygons, convex polygons, regular polygons, irregular polygons, Equilateral Polygons, Equiangular Polygons, Triangle polygons, Quadrilateral polygons, Pentagon...Read More
Polygons are the figures formed by joining 3 or more line segments and thus forming the closed figures. We say that the polygons with three line segments are Triangles, the polygons with 4 line segments are quadrilaterals, the polygons with 5 line segments are called pentagons and the polygons formed by joining 6 line segments are called hexagons and this way more differ...Read More
Before going through the midpoint theorem, let us first learn, what is midpoint. Geometrically, the midpoint is the middle Point of any line segment which is equidistant from both the endpoints.
The formula used to determine the midpoint of two points ‘a’ and b on a line is (a + b)/2 and the formula used to determine the midpoint of a Line Segment on a plane with endp...Read More
When we see a Polygon which has four or more sides and all the diagonals which are possible from a single vertex, then the polygon is divided into many Triangles. When we find the interior angle of a polygon then we find it by multiplying the number of triangles which are present in a polygon by 180 degree.
Now we see the angle sums of polygons with the help of di...Read More
The word Polygon is originated from two Greek word ‘poly’ and ‘gon’. ‘Poly’ means many and ‘gon’ means angle so word polygon means many angles. A closed plane figure bounded or surrounded by three or more sides and have several angles is defined as polygon. A polygon is formed with different parts and sides and its name depends on its sides like if a polygon has 6 sides...Read More
