Today, we are here to discuss about the Rational Numbers. Here we also discuss an example of rational number and check whether it is a rational number or not. Before we start let us recall our knowledge about the rational numbers. Rational numbers are the combination of two integer values. Or in other words we can say that rational numbers are the single unified numbers that is a combination of two integers , that is if simple ratio ( simple ratio is the ratio in which numerator and denominator of rational number does not have any common factor ) of two integers is taken then the resulting number is termed as rational number . Now let us discuss about the fractional number 3.14. As 3.14 has a finite value after decimal (that is .14), therefore it can be represented as a ratio of two numbers.
If we re-write the fractional number 3.14 as ratio then it would be like following : - 31.4 = 314 / 100 = 157 / 50 ( common factor 2 is divided from both ) Now, as the above two values that is 157 and 50 have no common factor so it cannot be further simplified . Therefore it is a simplified ratio. Since 3.14 can be expressed as 157/50 (that is a rational number), so 3.14 is a RATIONAL NUMBER.
