There are different types of Numbers in mathematics and one of them is Fractions, fractions are written in from p / q, where 'p' and 'q' are numerator and denominator respectively. For example: 1/10, 3/4, 5/12 etc. Here we will see how to estimate fractions.
A fraction in which numerator is greater than denominator is known as improper fraction. Example: 5/2, 7/5, 14/10, 20/20, 100, 26 . In this example all values of numerator are larger than denominator. In mathematics there are three types of fractions which are:
1. Proper fraction,
2. Improper fraction,
3. And mixed fraction;
Any fraction that has numerator smaller than denominator is known as proper fraction.
Example: 3/16, 50/140.
Any fraction that has numerator greater than denominator is known as improper fraction.
Example: 7/2, 160/125.
Let's see how to estimate improper fractions.
Step 1: Take an improper fraction in which numerator is greater than denominator.
Step 2: Then divide numerator by denominator.
Step3: If decimal number is present in numerator then change the decimal number into Whole Number and calculate the fraction.
Step4: If decimal value is not present then simply divide the numerator and denominator values.
Step 5: After solving improper fractions we get a whole number as answer.
Suppose we have 98284 / 4,
Improper fraction = 98284/4.
Step 1: Check whether fraction is an improper fraction or not.
Step 2: Now divide the numerator value by denominator value for simplifying the improper fraction. Now divide 98284 by 4;
4 | 98284
Divide 1st value,
After subtracting 8 from 9 we have 1 as remainder, now put the next value,
After subtracting 16 from 18 we have 2 as remainder, now put the next value,

So we get the whole number is 24571. This is how we estimate fractions.
