We can convert one number form to another number form, for example we can change a fraction number to a decimal number, decimal number to a Percentage number etc. Now let us look how to convert fraction to a mixed numeral.
Fraction number is a number which is in the form of p / q. Here 'p' and 'q' both are Real Numbers. Basically 'p' is larger than number 'q'. 'p' is called as numerator and 'q' is called as denominator of the fraction number.
Mixed number is a Combination of Whole Number and fraction number. Now we have to understand the conversion of fraction number to a mixed number.
Step 1: First we need a fraction number. Let us take a fraction number 5 / 2. Here numerator is greater than denominator.
Step 2: Now we have to divide numerator by denominator. In this example we have to divide 5 by 2. Here 2 is smaller than 5, so we can divide 5 by 2.
Step 3: On dividing 5 by 2 we get quotient 2 and remainder as 1.
Step 4: Here remainder 1 is smaller than divisor 2. So we cannot divide it further. We will get quotient = 2 and remainder = 1.
Step 5: In order to change this fraction number into a mixed numeral, we will consider remainder as numerator and divisor 2 as denominator. So new fraction number will be 1 / 2. This is a fraction number not a mixed number.
Step 6: Now we will multiply this new fraction number by quotient. Here quotient is 2, so we will get 2 (1 / 2),
2 (1 / 2) = 5/ 2,
Here 2 (1 / 2) is the mixed number of fraction 5 / 2.
