Dividing Fractions

We say that a fraction is the number which can be expressed in form of $\frac{p}{q}$, where ‘p’ and ‘q’ are whole Numbers and q ≠ 0. Here we are going to learn about dividing Fractions, we mean to find the division of two given Fractions. We will learn the method for how to divide fraction.

When we divide the two fractions, we need to find the inverse of the second fraction and multiply it with the first fraction. To multiply two fractions, we have to multiply the numerator with the numerator and the denominator with the denominator. The resultant fraction we get is the division of the two given fractions. Now we will convert the resultant fraction into its lowest form.
e.g, $\frac{\frac{4}{7}}{\frac{3}{8}}$ = $\frac{4}{7}$ * $\frac{8}{3}$ = $\frac{4*8}{7*3}$ = $\frac{32}{21}$

Also we must remember that if we divide a fraction by its inverse, then the result will be Square of the fraction.
e.g,  $\frac{\frac{3}{7}}{\frac{7}{3}}$ = $\frac{3}{7}$ * $\frac{3}{7}$ = ($\frac{3}{7}$)2

If the fraction is divided by 1, the result is the given fraction itself. So we say that 1 is the multiplicative identity.
e.g,  $\frac{\frac{2}{5}}{1}$ = $\frac{2}{5}$

Dividing Mixed Numbers

We say that a fraction is the number which can be expressed in form of $\frac{p}{q}$, where ‘p’ and ‘q’ are whole Numbers and q ≠ 0. Here we are going to learn about dividing mixed Numbers. For dividing Fractions we need to find the inverse of the second fraction and multiply it with the first fraction. Unlike addition and subtraction, there is no need for the fra...Read More

Dividing Fractions by Fractions

We say that a fraction is the number which can be expressed in form of $\frac{p}{q}$, where ‘p’ and ‘q’ are whole Numbers and q ≠ 0. Here we are going to learn about dividing Fractions. Unlike addition and subtraction, there is no need for the fractions to be like in division.

The following steps are to explain the division of fraction:

  1. If the ...Read More

Dividing Fractions by Whole Numbers

We say that a fraction is the number which can be expressed in form of $\frac{p}{q}$, where ‘p’ and ‘q’ are whole Numbers and q ≠ 0. Here we are going to learn about dividing a mixed fraction with a Whole Number. Unlike addition and subtraction, there is no need for the Fractions to be like in division.

The following steps are to explain the divisi...Read More
