Descriptive Statistics

The descriptive statistic is a very important field of Statistics which tells us all the disciplines which are required for the collection of data. The objective of the Descriptive Statistics is to make the summarized data Sets. It is not like inductive statistics where data is used to gain knowledge about the population. This is not developed and designed on the basis of the theory of Probability.

Let us see descriptive statistics definition. This is a Set of the descriptive coefficients that are used for summarizing the data set, which may represent the population or the sample. The measures which are used to describe the data sets are basically:
1.      Central Tendency
2.      Dispersion

1.      Central Tendency: The term central tendency is used to get the center of the distribution of the values. This has mainly three types of estimates of the central tendency which are basically the Mean, median, and Mode.

Mean: For the calculation of the mean, that is a method of describing the central tendency, we take all the values and then sum up and then divide the sum by the total count of the values.
Median: The Median is also a very important estimate. This is the total score that is found at the middle of the given set of data values.

Mode: It is the value which occurs mostly in the given set of data values.

2.      Dispersion: It is the collection of the values which are spread around the central tendency. It consists of two common estimates or measures of Dispersion which are: range and Standard Deviation.

Range: It is basically the difference between the highest and the lowest value. For example: Range of the highest value 65 and lowest value 35 is (65 - 35), 30.

Standard deviation: It is shows the relationship that a set of values has to the mean of the given sample.

Measurability and Variability

If we are performing operation on any statically data it many happen that we obtain result after performing two operations. Then it can happen that we get two different results for the same data then it is cal...Read More

Data Collection

Collection of data in Statistics is a very crucial process. Any inaccuracy of data can lead to several problems. It can result in invalid outcomes. We can say, the data collection in statistics is a procedure of preparing and collecting data. The main purpose of statistics data collection is to keep the records, to make important decision about any topic and to forward t...Read More

Methods of data collection

For certain research studies, we require the collection of data to attain certain conclusions. We must ensure that the data collected should be accurate as incorrect data leads to fake results and wrong conclusions. Sometimes the data is collected from the primary sources by the researchers themselves as per the need of the research. They collect them as per t...Read More

Basic Terms

Basic statistical terms in statics include Arithmetic Mean, Median, Mode, Geometric mean and harmonic mean.
 Basic Statistics terms are explained below-
Mean of raw data:
If there are n quantities x1, x2, x3,..., xn then the mean is
Mean = x1 + x2 + x3 + … + xn / n = ∑ xi / n.
 Mean for a frequency deviation (Direct method)
Mean = f1x1 + f2x2 + f3x3 + … + fnxn / ∑ fi =...Read More

Box and Whisker Plots

A box plot (also known as box and whisker plots) in Statistics is a method of representing numerical data graphically. To find the box whisker plot, we need to arrange our data in increasing order. Then we find out the Median of the given Numbers. If the numbers are odd, then the middle value of the number after sorting is the median. If the numbers are even then t...Read More
