Adding Whole Numbers

The Counting Numbers starting from (1, 2, 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , .......) and 0 make the whole numbers. Sum of any two whole numbers is always Whole Number which is called as Closure property of addition of whole numbers. Every number which is added is called an addend and the result is called sum.

To add two whole numbers, first write the numbers below each other and align the same units i.e align the units, ones, and hundred under one another. Then start adding the numbers. Start with right end digit of the whole number then add every column. Rule for addition is that when sum of any column is equal to or less than 9 , then write it directly , but when it is greater than 9 , then we have to write the ones digit number and carry the tens digit to the next column.

And it proves the closure property as 34 is also a whole number.

Operations of Addition

Mathematics is not only the collection of Numbers of different types(i.e, natural numbers, whole numbers, fractions, integers, rational and irrational numbers and real numbers) but also includes the combination of mathematical operators(i.e, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) which actually increase relevancy of existence of the numbers.

Properties of Addition and Convenient Calculation

Addition means to add, join, combine or bring together any two or more given terms. A '+' sign is used to denote addition. Here are some of the properties of addition:

1. Closure Property

According to this property, when two whole Numbers are added then the sum will also be a whole number.

e.g, 3 + 5 = 8

Column Addition

Addition is used to add, join, combine or bringing together two or more values. The '+' sign is used  to represent the Operations of Addition. Addition can be done by forward counting. If we need to add 6 + 2, then simply we count forward 2 from 6 i.e, 7, 8. Then the required result 6 + 2 is 8.

While adding bigger digits i.e. if 235 and 277, the forward counting ...Read More
